It’s Tuesday, and high time we got this plan back on track.
If I’ve learnt one thing in the last ten years that will always keep coming back to judge my own behaviour, it is how social media acts as a magnifying lens. Just because someone else made it to L120 overnight in Warcraft doesn’t mean a) you’re behind b) that’s the right thing to do or c) that they’re wasting their lives. Sure, you can try and point out how perhaps, possibly, people shouldn’t blame other people for their own shortcomings, but you know how this works. Either it ends in tears, or you lose another part of your soul.
Either way, the effort is no longer worth the reward.
Instead it is better to concentrate on the places where your own effort does indeed grant the payoff required. In my case that is writing and exercise. If other people choose to acknowledge that, then so be it, and it becomes a bonus. If they don’t, it doesn’t matter. The real key is not to be distracted from the course, and that is already difficult at present because I stayed up far too late last night and should know better. However, I got to enjoy myself and so, in that regard, everything is fine. It’ll be an early night tonight, and back on the path proper tomorrow, though I may yet go for a run later.
There’s an awful lot to do in the meantime, so let’s get to it.
